Freedom in the Hindu Kush

Freedom in the Hindu Kush

The cycle “Freedom in the Hindu Kush” consists of four digital collages that address the antagonism of Western positions and actions in Afghanistan. The aesthetics of figure, shape and color are opposed to a socially critical approach. For this cycle, Wolfgang Kuehn did not pick up the camera himself, but used existing photographic material as a basis. All the images used in the collages are the result of a symbiosis of photography and digital painting. For this purpose, every single element was elaborately processed with digital painting before the numerous digital images were composed for the collages. In the collages, the various figure and form elements are rearranged, architecturally assigned, painterly connected and brought into interaction with one another. The viewer is given the opportunity to discover new aspects in detail. The interaction of the elements gives an impression of the antagonism of Western positions and actions in Afghanistan.
