Heaven to Hell

Heaven to Hell

The cycle “Heaven to Hell”, consisting of five digital collages, addresses the antagonism of church positions and actions. The aesthetics of figure, shape and color are opposed to a socially critical approach. The work focuses on presenting what is currently invisible for the viewer. For this cycle, Wolfgang Kuehn did not pick up the camera himself, but used existing photographic material as a basis. All the images used in the collages are the result of a symbiosis of photography and digital painting. For this, each individual element was elaborately processed with digital painting before the numerous digitally processed images were composed for the collages. In the collages, the various figure and form elements are rearranged, architecturally assigned, painterly connected and brought into interaction with one another. The viewer is given the opportunity to discover new aspects in detail. The interaction of the elements gives an impression of the antagonism of church positions and actions well beyond what is explicitly depicted.
