Interferences, BBK Art Forum Duesseldorf, 22.03.-03.03.2024

Exhibition

‘INTERFERENCES’ will be an experimental exhibition that questions the concept and phenomenon of ‘superposition’. These can be understood physically and sensually but also as a cultural experience and examined using the means of art. The selection of works depends on the ‘value of their answers’, which you have found and outlined in a statement about the work. Another criterion for selection will be how the works relate to one another and possibly create new interferences. We hope for an exhibition in the sense of a crossover between scientific and artistic understanding. The invitation to the exhibition is aimed at artists from all areas, from technical media including AI, photographic techniques, graphics, painting, installation to writing and sound.

Wolfgang Kuehn has been nominated for his work “Cross Modal Interference Pattern”

The installation “Cross Modal Interference Pattern” visualizes a superposition of several vibrations and vibration levels that come from different sources. One source is interference, which occurs in nature through wave movements of water, wind and light. The other source is technically created interference patterns on offset printing plates, which were specifically created through artistic interaction with a grinder machine.

In the installation, the optical interferences that arise in nature are dynamically projected onto the technically generated interferences using digital projection. Through these projections, the natural and technical interferences interact in a cross-over projection to form new, dynamic interference patterns on a different level.

The installation consists of 12 aluminum plates in the format 50 x75 and the dynamic projection of the optical interferences created by nature.
